Technical Information
Over recent months we have noticed that a significant number of openers being returned to Direct Door Service for repairs have not been subject to routine maintenance.
We have found that many openers, especially those that fall outside of the warranty period look as though they have never been cleaned or lubricated beyond the factory. It is very important that you are aware that in order to have a long lasting opener (and door), it should be serviced regularly.
In order to keep your garage door and opener running smoothly and quietly the main drive gears – the worm and helical gears should be covered with a high temperature grease lubricant.
Lubricant is not required on the pipe assembly (shaft) of SecuraLIFT ®. However, the chain should be coated lightly with an appropriate light machine oil or chain lubricant.
The door guide tracks need to be cleaned regularly. It is important not to use a wet lubricant such as WD-40 or RP-7. These products can attract dust and grit, and ultimately create further problems for your door. It is also important for the home owner to ensure that the door receives regular inspection and adjustment. The door’s springs lose tension over time and if left unchecked, it may cause undue strain on the opener and create reversing or overload errors.
It is important after installation you receive the instruction manual and are informed of all the safety precautions and the maintenance required. In particular, regular testing of doors by a qualified technician be carried out, and adjustment of the force margin (reversing) sensitivity.
The instruction manuals for both EasyRoller® and SecuraLIFT® garage door openers now has a provision for keeping a record of maintenance and service as well as installer and serial number details. In the coming months the gate openers instruction manuals will undergo a similar revision.
We have also received a number of inquires from owners of brand new homes, or those that have moved into a home where an automatic opener has been installed. In general the public don’t know who has installed or performed the service, home owners or users of the doors can contact us for sales and service requirement.
